Recently, Ding Shihong, member of the party committee of the college and president of the high-efficiency motor research institute, led all the party members of the party branch of the institute to the Weigang Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall of the New Fourth Army to carry out themed party day activities.

All party members visited the basic display of the Weigang Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall, watched the Weigang battle propaganda film in the form of an allegro, and relived the oath of joining the party in front of the Weigang Victory Monument. Through visiting and listening to explanations, all party members were deeply impressed by the first battle of the New Fourth Army in Jiangnan to resist the enemy, and had a deeper understanding of the spirit of the iron army of the New Fourth Army in the revolutionary spirit of Jiangsu. All party members expressed that they should conscientiously study and inherit the spirit of the older generation of revolutionary martyrs who dare to fight, face difficulties, bravely shoulder responsibilities, and are not afraid of sacrifice, keep in mind the original mission, actively perform their duties, produce more scientific research results, strengthen social services, promote the high-quality development of the institute with practical actions, and contribute to the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

In April 1992, the site of the Weigang ambush was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Zhenjiang City, and the Weigang Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall of the New Fourth Army is now a provincial patriotic education base. On June 17, 1938, the advance detachment of the New Fourth Army entered the Weigang ambush site under the command of Su Yu, and on the morning of June 18, the battle began, and the whole battle lasted only half an hour, annihilating more than 30 officers and men of the Japanese army, including Doi, destroying 4 cars, capturing more than 20 long and short guns, 4 vehicles of military supplies and other large quantities of sabers, military uniforms, and more than 7,000 yuan in Japanese banknotes. This battle was the first battle of the New Fourth Army to advance behind enemy lines in Jiangnan to resist the Japanese invaders, and it opened the curtain for the thousands of battles in Jiangnan and the anti-Japanese guerrilla base in southern Jiangsu centered on Maoshan, which occupied an important position in the history of our army.
